i read in a article:
How to Do the Master Cleanse

In a nutshell, the Master Cleanse is this:

* The diet takes at least 10 days (up to 40 days, the period of time that Jesus fasted after his baptism, as Burroughs points out)
* The only nourishment that you take is a special lemonade concoction made from lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water, six to twelve glasses per day, each glass containing about 110 calories in sugar carbohydrates
* An herbal laxative tea is drunk at night and a quart of salt water is drunk first thing in the morning, resulting in several liquid bowel movements every day — you need to always be near a toilet when you do this diet, and you need to stock up on toilet paper
* You come off the diet by transitioning to solid food over a few days, ideally becoming a raw food vegetarian in Stanley Burroughs’ version of the diet

Can I just drink only the special lemonade..not the salt water or herbal laxative tea?

and still lose weight?

Okay, so before anything, I’m going to tell you, I’m 17 years old, 5 feet, and 120 pounds.
I want to be 110 pounds.

I don’t excercise, the only excercise I get is that I walk a LOT. About two miles a day, sometimes three, sometimes only one.

I’ve only been dieting for a week.
Before this week, my meals were TERRIBLE. all junk food, chips chocolate cookies like 10 servings of it a day, pizza chinese food fried food iced tea all of that good yummy stuff! But I had a reality check and realized my stomach isn’t as flat as I want it to be, and my thighs aren’t as thin as I want them to be.

So I cut off all junk food, I’m putting in more vegetables and fruits in my diet, and cut off all sugary drinks.
But I’m afraid I might be eating too much…
My scale says I’ve lost 3 pounds over the week, but my scale does that sometimes. And by the end of the night I’m back at 120 pounds anyways.

This was my food today :
Lunch : half a turkey hero with muenster cheese, lettuce and olives, and half a tuna hero with muenster cheese, lettuce and olives (i had turkey, my mom had tuna, we switched halves)

Than for a snack, I had a kiwi and a banana

For dinner, I had two lean pieces (size of the palm of my hand, but thin like card board) of pork, bbq’ed corn on the cob, half of a potato, grilled with garlic and onion powder (first time trying them, delicious! no oil or anything! just on the BBQ grill! yum! are they fattening?), and a half a cup of beans

I had a lot of water today, I’ve been drinking a lot of water.

Is this too much food?

Also.. for a snack later, since it’s still early and I get hungry often.. my mom made home made soft pretzels and i want one sooooo bad.. is it okay if i eat this? i haven’t had a snack in a weeeeeeek!

will i lose any weight eating like this? or at least mantain my weight? i only want to lose 10 pounds!

Breakfast : brownie with milk
Lunch : chinese food
Snack : two bags of chips and two bars of chocolate and a large iced tea
Dinner : three big pieces of fried chicken with two potatoes as french fries to myself
Than more chocolate for dessert

YEP.. And I managed to NOT be overweight with eating like this ALL MY LIFE. I guess I’m lucky.
Anyways, I’m not 100% satisfied with my body. I really would love to be a tad bit thinner, just 10 pounds!

i’m 17, 116 pounds (was 120 last week) and trying to go down to 110 pounds. (i’m only 5 feet tall, lol!)

i think i’ve been eating pretty good! i definately cut out all junk food and stuff! my old meals were like, chinese food with a large iced tea for lunch, than chicken cutlets french fries and cheese for dinner, and like two chocolate bars and two bags of chips for dessert (not even kidding. delicious, and i wasn’t even overweight. but i’m a little chubby now and i want to change that!)

SO ANYWAYS …………..

today i woke up late, 12:30 PM

around 1:30 PM i had a sandwich (two slices of bread, not a hero or anything, regular slices for toast), it was white bread =/ i ran out of wheat .. i had tuna fish, about half a can, with just a little bit of light mayo, cause i’m not a fan of mayo anyways. i put cheddar cheese slices =/ and some olives and lettuce on it, and ate it.
afterwards i ate a kiwi., around 2:30.

at 6:30, i had about a cup of spinach mixed with rice, it’s like a greek dish, i THINK it’s healthy for you…

and for dinner i’m gonna have chicken breast, probably grilled.. with corn on the cob and like a cup of mashed potatoes.

and for dessert i have a banana.

is this too much food? too many calories? i did about 100 crunches and i’m gonna walk about a mile or two later.

and is it okay if i eat ONION AND GARLIC WISE chips? it’s like not even 200 calories for the whole 50 cent bag. is it okay? or is it too many calories?

am i eating okay????

Are there any pre-diet preparations i need make before i begin this diet/detox?
How exactly am i to make the lemonade/pepper drink?
How long do you think i should continue the detox? (Given the health risks involved)
Ive heard of some sort of Laxative herbal tea that im supposed to drink (or salt mixed with water) but what exactly is this herbal drink and the name for it when purchasing in the shops?
And by cayenne pepper does it mean the stuff you get in the little herb pots or freshly ground stuff that you have made?

BTW please dont preach the health effects and dangers of this detox/diet as im perfectly aware and am willing to accept the possible effects.

Thanks very much for any help :)

I used to eat a lot of fatty foods while I was traveling on business is last 12 months and also drank lots of soda. My routine blood test showed that my blood sugar was 132 mg/DL but I had consumed 3 tic tacs just before the test. My fasting sugar was 98 mg/DL one year ago and after all the unhealthy eating in last one year I had this high reading above.

My doctor will be ordering a followup blood test within a week or two to check for sugar again since it was high. Now here is the question. I worked out for 30-40 minutes on treadmill every day for last 6 days and have been on a very strict diet with an exception of 2 cups of rice that I eat every day. My fasting blood sugar today morning is 97 mg/DL. I also have fever right now for last 2 days …its a viral my whole family has right now. I do not know if fever and throat infection can lower glucose. So I am not sure what I should assume. But I will now on be very proactive and do exercise at least 5 days a week if not all. Is such a major change possible ? How can I still make sure if I truly have prediabetes or diabetes ?

Would this diet work or should I continue of a strict diet. I find it very tough to continue on this strict diet. How much can I relax on a daily basis ? I am a vegetarian (eat eggs only) and do not consume alcohol.

Here is what I ate in past: lots of fried food (I am a vegetarian, 2 regular COKEs during 4 days of the week, cooked food with 1 tablespoon of oil, rice (2-3 cups everyday while not traveling, thai-italian-indian-chinese food (while traveling, icecreams, sweets (as I have a sweet tooth), indian bread (with little ghee). Drank less that 1 liter water per day.

Here is what I am eating for last 6 days: drinking 2 liters of water per day, no sodas or juices, 2-4 cups of fruits like watermelons/ strawberries/blackberries, some crackers (4-5 pieces), one cup tea with 2 teaspoon sugar, 2-3 cups of rice everyday, vegetable cooked in spices along with 1-2 teaspoon oils per serving, bread occasionally. One meal with fruits and other with rice.

Can I relax my current diet a bit? I would like to stay on sugar level below 100 mg/DL for most of my life without any medications. I do not take any medications right now.

Is the below diet reasonable to stay below 100 mg/DL for possible most of my life?

Daily basis: Eat 2-4 cups of fruits, one cup of tea with 2 teaspoon sugar and some snacks like crackers, one meal (2 indian bread with no oil made of wheat flour, one cup vegetables cooked with 2 teaspoon oil per serving with indian spices, 1 cup lentil curry cooked in 1 teaspoon oil per serving), second meal (2-3 cups indian rice, 2 cups vegetables with spices and 2 teaspoon oil per serving ). I somehow cannot stand stand eating raw vegetables like salad, but some can add it once or twice a week if absolutely needed. I also eat egg based dishes (4 eggs per week) but these are lightly fried in 2-4 teaspoon canola oil.

I am not sure how much of the below can I add to my current without risking my health much:
(1) Fruit Juice (one cup per day or can I have more)
(2) Wheat bread (one bread per day on break fast)
(3) Add 1 teaspoon oil/ghee to two indian breads that I eat every day
(4) Dessert (not fat free) once per week or two weeks
(5) Can I eat 1-2 cups indian fried snack at home one a week or two weeks which is fried in Canola Oil?
(6)Eat egg based dishes (2-3 eggs per week) but can be lightly fried in 2-4 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil.

I will not consume Soda any more that I used to consume a lot in the past. But how much other things I can have ? Like SIMPLY Orange Juice, Lemonade, etc as they have sugar in them.

Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Saj
Thanks everyone and Tin S. I very much appreciate all your feedback from bottom of my heart.

PS: Tin S, yes… very good question. The reason is my family physician never had a lab onsite and I used to do the routine blood work always at Labcorp on some other day. This particular day he said his office can draw my blood during the same visit. I did tell the lab technician that I ate tic tac but doc said it was OK and they are going to make note in my file. If I had known that they have a lab and there may be a test then I would have gone fasting.
Dr Russo, Thanks for the feedback. You indeed answer question yesterday very precisely. But my sugar level (fasting) of 97 mg/dl (that too I am running 101 fever) puzzled me as to whether I am diabetic or not. So posted a further question with specific historical details.

I would like to lose some weight. I’m 150lbs (70kg) and want to be about 120lbs (55kg)…

How can I go on a diet, like having fruit during the day, and having a big green leafy salad for supper, plenty water, etc….but without missing my favourite foods? Or sometimes you just missing having your latte with biscotti, or muffin. and all these seemingly ‘innocent’ things tend to render most diets ineffectual! :-)

So, what’s the trick? Herbal teas? What are low calorie ‘comfort foods’??? (if there’s such a thing? )

Thanks in advance

What are some things you do/use, or recipes you use that help you stay on your diet? My 2 favorite are:

1. Drinking flavored herbal teas throughout the day prevents cravings and tastes so much better than water
2. Egg whites are the best diet food ever. Only 15 calories each and full of protein. I eat 3 scrambled egg whites and 1 slice reduced fat cheese melted on top- under 100 calories! It is soo filling.
3. Adding fresh garlic to salads adds so much flavor and taste that VERY minimal dressing is needed.
